Based on recent Lands of America data, Michigan ranks seventh in the nation for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Michigan ranks 22nd. Recent internal data lists about $5 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale in the Wolverine State, which represents almost 369,000 acres of Michigan land for sale. Of the 83 counties in Michigan, Grand Traverse County had the most land and farms for sale. There were 335 acres of sold land in Michigan recorded in January 2019 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a 50 percent change in sales activity over the month before, with a combined land value of $1 million for all property and land sold in the state. Jackson County had the most land sales recently in the state. Along with public hunting lands, Michigan boasts over two million acres of private land managed as commercial forest for hunters to track white-tailed deer, elk, bear, grouse, and more. Bounded by four Great Lakes, it's fair to say the fishing ain't bad, either. The state has also been ranked among the ten best states for the cost of living by U.S. News & World Report. In terms of size, Michigan is the country's 11th-largest state, covering an area of 96,810 square miles (62 million acres). Of its total landmass, 56,539 square miles of the state is land, while the remaining 40,175 square miles comprises water. Wildlife to be found on land for sale in Michigan include whitetail deer, turkey, grouse, geese, bear, ducks, and pheasant. Fishermen can enjoy casting for bass, trout, walleye, pike, and catfish.
